Male Team 10 - 13 Jun
Route d'Occitanie
696 Kilometers 4 Stages
There will be 10-6-4″ at the finish of every stage, plus 3-2-1″ at the intermediate sprints.
A race of reunion! Gregor Mühlberger and Iñigo Elosegui will put a backnumber on with the Movistar Team after three months of absence -the Austrian, due to a serious, non-covid illness; the Basque, suffering a tendon irritation- at the Route d’Occitanie, always beautiful and interesting with its route between the coast and the Pyrenees. The race, sadly, won’t enjoy live TV coverage in 2021.
There will be two opportunities for the faster riders to open the race, with the Fontfroide (Cat-1) as main obstacle, yet far from the finish, towards Lacaune on stage one (Thursday 10th) and an uphill finish in Auch (Friday 11th), over 700m at 6% with some difficult twists and turns. The big mountains will be tackled on the weekend, with the Tourmalet (HC) and the finish up Le Mourtis (Cat-1; 12.6km at 6.5%) on Saturday 12th, while the showdown, Sunday 13th, will see the riders climb to the Château de Peyrepertuse (Cat-1; 4.4km at 8.5%) via the Grau de Maury sous Quéribus (Cat-2; 4.2km at 5.8%).
