Analysis

Placed into a week with no WorldTour events, few days before the European Championships and ten away from the start of La Vuelta, the Tour de l’Ain, held on Jura soil between the Vosges and the Alps, will gather all attention for the men’s Movistar Team in the previous phase to its home Grand Tour.

This is a race that’s always been known for its mountainous terrain, and even if stage one -finishing in Val Revermont (Tuesday 9th)- will be for the sprinters, the other two contain hard, explosive terrain in short mileages, never going further than four hours of racing.

Wednesday 10th, riders will tackle the cols of Fossés (Cat-2), Seillonnaz (Cat-2) and 2x Portes (Cat-1), the latter just 20km away from the finish in Lagnieu. A day later (Thursday 11th), to decide the event, the peloton will climb to Cuvillat (Cat-3), Giron (Cat-2) and twice over Menthières (Cat-1), the last one 21km before an uphill finish in Lélex Monts-Jura.
