Analysis

A new window of opportunity opens for Annemiek van Vleuten and the Movistar Team to aim at victory, in probably the highest point of fitness for the Olympic champion this spring, as the Flèche Wallonne holds no less than its 25th edition in 2022, opening an Ardennes duo where the Telefónica-backed squad has set high hopes.

Following a different opening section, 60km different to last year’s with no categorized climbs -a perfect scenario for an early break-, the race will enter its final 2 1/2 laps around the finish. It will include two ascents of the Côte d’Ereffe (2.1km at 5%); three of the Côte de Cherave (1.3km at 8.1%), the last one less than seven kilometers from the end; and three of the traditional, legendary Mur de Huy, with 1.3km at 9.1% and a maximum of 19% halfway through.
