Analysis

For the very first time in its 114 editions, the ‘Classicissima’ will not actually be a race from Milan to Sanremo. The city of Abbiategrasso will hold the start of a race otherwise unchanged in its profile, with classics specialists and sprinters facing off for one of the most coveted victories of the cycling spring.

Following the ascent to the Passo del Turchino (144km), the race will go down to the Riviera Ligure and climb the ‘Capi’ -Capo Mele (242km), Capo Cervo (247km) and Capo Berta (255km)-, small elevations prior to the two decisive ascents.

Those are the Cipressa (272km; 5.6km, 4.1%), always covered at fast speeds which create a significant selection; and, most notably, the Poggio (287km; 3.7km, 3.7%), where the decisive moves for glory come before the finish at the Via Roma.
