Male Team 12 Oct Il Lombardia
Il Lombardia
255 Kilometers
The race will be broadcast -in what’s already a tradition in all Monuments- from start to finish. Eurosport and discovery+ will bring the action to European homes.
Some landslides in the demanding Civiglio climb, which was previously decisive to Il Lombardia’s outcome when the race ended in Como -there’s alternance every year between the lake city and Bergamo-, have led to significant changes to the route of the ‘Classic of the Falling Leaves’.
As a result, more protagonism is offered to both the iconic Madonna del Ghisallo -though it will be climbed from its easier side, and ends with 80km to go- and, most importantly, Sormano. The tough slopes of the ‘Muro’ won’t be overcome, rather than using the Colma, which will make for no less than 13 kilometers uphill, at 6.7% average gradient. A Giro d’Italia worth climb, ending 42km before the line.
A very long descent will take the race to the foot of San Fermo, two-and-a-half kilometers at 7% completed just 5km before the finish. It will be the decisive point of a race which closes out the big Classics for 2024 – yet not the Movistar Team calendar, the Blues still competing a week later in China (Guangxi) and the Veneto races.
