Strade Bianche
136 Kilometers
The fourth edition of the Strade Bianche Women Elite will be the debut in a UCI Women’s WorldTour race for the Movistar Team, which will have to tackle a long (136km), really demanding course with more than thirty kilometers on white gravel roads of ‘sterrato’, which have made this race in Tuscany so famous and popular.
The dirt sections are divided into two groups. The opening 80km of racing, less lumpy -even if there’s a long hill at Ville di Corsano, inside the ‘sterrato’ no. 2-, include the five longest ‘tratti’, one of them up to 9.5km from Monteroni d’Arbia to Asciano. The final three, in contrary, are quite shorter and make part of a finale full of little ascents, which both men’s and women’s routes share.
Monteaperti – Vico d’Arbia (section 6, 800m, 112km), Colle Pinzuto (section 7, 2.4km, 117km) and Le Tolfe (section 8, 1.1km, 123km) are the decisive points of a race which could split up well before that part, and usually reaches Siena’s Piazza del Campo completely shattered, riders coming across the line one by one -without forgetting that the final kilometer includes the brutal slope of Santa Caterina, inside the city-.
