Vuelta a Madrid
423 Kilometers 3 Stages
Lacking a huge mountain stage to condition the strategies and with no bonus seconds awarded either, the 32nd Vuelta a Madrid could well be decided into what’s been its most characteristic finish for the past few years, the one in Madrid’s Paseo de la Castellana, next to the Santiago Bernabéu stadium (99km, 19 laps; Sunday 12th May).
Before that, the inaugural stage (Friday 10th) will visit the Henares river area and the east of the province, with seven Cat-3 climbs and plenty of wind-exposed roads towards Aranjuez’s finish. Stage two (Saturday 11th), which will preceed the final circuit, will be the Queen one in this year’s race, featuring five harder ascents in the so-called Sierra Oeste -between Madrid and Ávila- and a softer finale through the Alto del Encinar del Alberche (Cat-3) before the finish in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Pablo Lastras’ hometown.
