Analysis

The Vuelta CV is one of the few Spanish races which have been rewarded by the UCI with a promotion to the new second category of the world calendar, the ProSeries, which will allow them having a sensational field of competitors – including the Movistar Team, whose big leaders Alejandro Valverde and Marc Soler will not miss the event.

There will not be any time trials in the 2020 VCV, with the organisers choosing to set up five point-to-point stages. With three sprint finishes expected at Vila-real (Wed 5th), Torrevieja (Fri 7th) and Valencia (Sun 9th), the decisive stages are likely to be the other two: the uphill finish at Cullera (Thu 6th), over a 1.3km climb at around 9% avg.; and the Queen stage on Saturday 8th, through the climbs of Confrides, Tudons, Benimatell and the brutal Sierra de Bernia, a 5.3km ascent at 11.7% (!!).
