Analysis

Italy will be the venue for almost the entire calendar of the men’s Movistar Team in its last month of racing, starting with this Giro della Toscana – Memorial Alfredo Martini, which offers chances to both the climbers and the classics riders who usually excel in these late-season races in the country.

The 191km course around Pontedera, a little city between Pisa and Florence, comprises an initial, point-to-point section, with two small climbs to Lajatico -also featured at the following day’s Coppa Sabatini– and another one to Santo Pietro Belvedere, and a double final circuit, more demanding, with the climb to the Monte Serra.

It’s an 8.2 kilometer, 6.7% average ascent, crested with about 30km from the finish, after which the riders will still have to take on the short, sharp slope of Quattro Strade, around 10km before the end.
