Male Team 28 Mar
Gent-Wevelgem
247.5 Kilometers
The race will be broadcast live on Eurosport 1 and GCN, at 2.20pm CEST (or maybe a bit later, if the end of the Volta a Catalunya so requires).
Located between the E3 Harelbeke and the Ronde van Vlaanderen, the Gent-Wevelgem, held closer to the sea and the French border than its ‘neighbours’, has found a way to find and show its distinct character with the Plugstreets, gravel road sections used between trenches at World War I, here utilised around 70km from the end of a race which contains two other main features.
The first one happens far away from the finish, at a famous flat, road-exposed sector, De Moeren, already covered at last Thursday’s Brugge – De Panne Classic and which almost inherently marks a chance for echelons. The other, most famous point if the Kemmelberg, its cobblestones climbed three times (the last one, just 35km from the end) – a perfect chance for the classics riders to avoid a bigger group’s sprint and seek for their chances.
