Male Team 30 Jul
Clásica San Sebastián
223.5 Kilometers
The race will be broadcast live on Eurosport / GCN (3.30pm CEST).
The Movistar Team has claimed four victories in San Sebastián so far with its different names. Miguel Indurain won in 1990, Luis León Sánchez did the same in 2010 and Alejandro Valverde has two victories, in 2008 and 2014.
With no women’s version this time -the race was part of the new Itzulia Women, back in May- and over a course identical to the one in 2021, Spain’s only WorldTour one-day event will again offer picturesque, spectacular terrain, suited to both the climbers and the best classics specialists in the peloton.
Following the initial ascents to Azkarate (Cat-3; 63km), Urraki (Cat-2; 83km) and Alkiza (Cat-3; 104km), the Basque event will start its decisive loops with about 70km, first over the famous Jaizkibel (Cat-2, 161km; eight kilometers at 5.6%), then the brutal Erlaitz (Cat-1, 181km; almost four kilometers at 10.6%), whose ramps could well create the decisive selection. If it doesn’t happen, then it all will come down to Murgil Tontorra (Cat-2; 2.1km at 10.1%), whose summit is placed just 8km from the end.
