Analysis

In the middle of a series of Autumn classics usually leaning towards the more climbing type, the Gran Piemonte offers again in its 106th edition one of the last few chances of the season for the sprinters.

It’s a 198km course between Omegna, near Verbania and the lakes in the Swiss border, and Beinasco, outside Torino. There’s a series of gentle ascents over the first 40km, set to help form the early breakaway, and a six-kilometer ascent, Il Pilonetto, to be crested with 60km to go. The final section is completely flat.
