Analysis

Annemiek van Vleuten always strives for more. The biggest name of the early season will be at the start of Strade Bianche, the first round of the 2022 UCI WorldTour, as the only two-time winner of the Tuscan race.

The route is identical to last year’s, a 136km parcours around Siena with eight gravel roads. The first five will inevitable create some selection through pace, mechanicals and some significant moves. The last three ones – those will be the really decisive.

The sectors of Vico d’Arbia (-25km), Colle Pinzuto (-16km) and Le Tolfe (-13km), with short, steep ramps and difficult roads, will bring the moves before victory heading into the grueling final slope of Via Santa Caterina, just before one of the most beautiful finishes in cycling: Il Campo.
