Analysis

Stressful, with hard terrain equally distributed over the course and with no respite. 21 hills, or ‘bergs’, in just 157km, for an Amstel Gold Race where stagerace specialists, one-day puncheures or even some sprinters all hold chances.

From the 2023 edition, the race has been decided with four final laps of the famous Valkenburg circuit, over the Geulhemmerberg -a tough, long double straight-, Bemelerberg -gentle and fast- and Cauberg with 1.7km from the finish in Berg en Terblijt. Before that, eight other ascents will be crested, including the Kruisberg (61km), Eyserbosweg -a tough slope, 64km-, Fromberg (68km) and the Keutenberg (73km), with its maximum of 20%. As we mentioned, it’s never an easy thing.
