Training Camp at Rafa Nadal Sports Centre

Full Blue lineup for Challenge Mallorca cover 140km at their most intense ride of the week, prior to the maiden race of the Spanish calendar starting on Thursday.

In their second full day staying at the Rafa Nadal Sports Centre in Mallorca, the Movistar Team entered the roads which will define stages two and three of this weekend’s Challenge.

The Telefónica-backed squad, with its ten members called up for the race -Valverde, Landa, Rojas, Roelandts, Verona, Mas, Bennati, Erviti, Oliveira and Pedrero-, covered 140km on Tuesday, from Santa Maria del Camí to Inca, inspecting the ‘colls’ of Sóller (two ascents), Bleda, Sa Pedrisa and most notably the Puig Major, the highest climb in the island and the main stage for both Friday and Saturday’s trophies.

Alongside them, for the entire route and at a good pace, stayed Mavi García, in the final stretch of her preparations for the Blue ladies’ debut in Valencia next month. The drops of rain at sections of the route did not ruin an otherwise cold, dry ride.

The Movistar Team will be moving to Playa de Palma on Wednesday for their Challenge hotel, where they will hold (7.30pm) a press conference in the eve of Alejandro Valverde’s first race of his 17th pro season.
