Flèche Wallonne Femmes

Spaniard from Movistar Team takes another 10th place after her great 2018 display, recovers her best legs at infamous Huy slopes to come back to the fore of the WorldTour peloton.

The best place to find back her best legs. One of the summits which made Mavi García (Movistar Team) smile in 2018, the Mur de Huy, again saw the excellent Mallorca climber shining at the 22nd edition of the Flèche Wallonne Femmes (UCI Women’s WorldTour), held on Wednesday over 118.5km with two laps of a very tough final circuit. A display of character from the Blues to bounce back from misfortune suffered in the early weeks of 2019.

Following good presence in the early breaks by Gloria Rodríguez and most notably Malgorzata Jasinska -caught with 40km to go, having joined a five-woman attempt prior to the tougher climbs-, García and team-mate Eider Merino climbed with the select front group through the first time up Huy. Mavi, well attentive into the moves after that ascent, stayed with the top guns (a 13-rider lead) at the Côte de Cherave, just 8km from the end.

Keeping her own pace in the grueling final 1.3km, García consolidated a fantastic 10th place to repeat her 2018 result, already consolidated as one of the best climbers in the WorldTour. The day’s negative sidenote was a crash, fortunately with no consequence, after 40km for Gloria Rodríuez and Lorena Llamas, back to the WWT after her Copa de España back-to-back wins.
