Left collarbone fracture

Spanish climber from Movistar Team sustains left collarbone fracture after falling down during a Giro Rosa-preparation ride in Sierra Nevada; has already undergone surgery in Pamplona on Thursday.

An unfortunate incident on Wednesday has left one of the Movistar Team’s best riders out of activity. Mavi García suffered a crash during one of his training rides in Sierra Nevada, where she was currently preparing – together with some of her team-mates – for the next big goal of her 2019 season: the Giro Rosa, which starts on Friday 5th July.

The Mallorca native fell down against her left shoulder and, most importantly, her head, the latter blow mitigated by the helmet she wore. Transferred to a hospital in Granada, the preliminary checkups – she was also scanned to rule out any cranial injuries – confirmed a broken collarbone.

Mavi flew to Pamplona on Thursday, where she’s underwent surgery this afternoon to repair the area damaged by the crash with internal fixation.
