As their first lineup of the season is already rolling at the Tour Down Under, prefaced by last Sunday’s opening criterium in Adelaide, the Movistar Team headed last weekend towards its second competition in this month of January: the Vuelta a San Juan (2.Pro), a seven-stage event starting on Sunday 26th January and ending a week later, on February 2nd.

José Luis Jaimerena will once again be at the helm of the Telefónica-backed squad’s expedition in Argentina, which features a much-revamped group including three newcomers: Spaniard Iñigo Elosegui, Switzerland’s Johan Jacobs -both neo-pros- and world-class track specialist Sebastián Mora. The lineup is completed by Portugal’s Nelson Oliveira, Colombian Carlos Betancur and one of the biggest local heroes, Chubut native Eduardo Sepúlveda.

Jacobs and Elosegui will start their pro careers in San Juan.

The 38th edition of the Vuelta a San Juan will again offer chances for the best climbers with its mountain-top finish in Colorado (Friday 31st; stage five) and the journey through Ischigualasto (Wednesday 29th; stage four), while also making its individual time trial harder, the 15km test (Tuesday 28th) including the 1.2km, 9% avg. climb of the Punta Negra dam. The crosswinds and the high speeds, combined with high temperatures, will be the other main factors for the GC outcome.
