For the second year on a row, Lisa Brennauer (WNT) took the TT win and race lead of the 2020 La Vuelta Challenge at Boadilla del Monte, venue for the crucial 9.3km stage two test. The German’s margin was only 1” this time, against Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (TFS), at a course with technical, urban zones combined with long straights and intermittent rain, which affected the late starters more seriously.
The Movistar Team had Katrine Aalerud, 51” off the day’s winner, as best performer in her first outing in Norwegian champion colours following last August’s victory. However, just 5” slower than hers was the time clocked by a great Jelena Erić, who finished really close to the top specialists despite the TT bars not being her main strength.
The duo from the Telefónica-backed squad are now one minute behind the lead heading into Sunday’s 17 decisive laps in Madrid, a 100km circuit that will put an end to the 2020 UCI Women’s WorldTour season.
