Former World Champion from Movistar Team on the attack, with good Blue support at second race of the weekend in Tuscany. Mauri Vansevenant (DQT) takes win from four-man group.
Alejandro Valverde keeps gaining confidence and building good legs as in every early season, and scored his first top-ten result of 2021 at the GP Larciano, held in Italy on Sunday over a 200km course including four final climbs to the gentle climb of Fornello / San Baronto.
The Movistar Team leaders was very active in pursuit of a four-man front group, led home by Mauri Vansevenant (DQT). Supported by a solid Telefónica-backed squad, with Héctor Carretero -briefly on the attack into the final circuit- and Nelson Oliveira notably involved, the Murcia native attacked into the final lap to reach the front and worked afterwards, chasing the decisive move, to finish only 16″ off the leaders in 8th place.
Some extra morale for ‘Bala’, whose next appearance at a stagerace is expected in two weeks’ time with the 100th Volta a Catalunya, which starts on Monday 22nd.
