Analysis

The Vuelta a Asturias is back in its 63rd edition with a route made entirely for climbers, even harder than when it was last held in 2019, as the Alto del Naranco -the most famous climb of this race- returns as grand finale of an event where GC contenders will have to battle in every single finish.

Seven climbs from Oviedo to Pola de Lena will open this year’s Route, including La Collaona (Cat-1) and the grueling finish through Carabanzo (Cat-3; 1..7km at 11%), on Friday 30th April. At stage two, riders will tackle the Alto del Acebo (Cat-1), en route to a dangerous, twisty descent towards Cangas del Narcea (Saturday 1st May). Finally, the Alto Violeo (Cat-2) and the traditional slopes of the Naranco will seal the GC on Sunday 2nd.
