Analysis

It will be a really special 6th edition of the women’s Vuelta a Burgos in 2021. For the very first time, the event will be part of the UCI WorldTour, which will bring the best riders in the world to a well-organised, secure race which the Movistar Team will try to further create exposure around with a strong team that features Annemiek van Vleuten and local hero Sara Martín.

It will be a demanding course on all of its four days, with up to three mountain-top finishes in Sargentes de la Lora (Thursday 20th), the ‘wall’ of Ojo Guareña (Saturday 22nd) and, above that, the first-ever women’s climb to the brutal Lagunas de Neila (Sunday 23rd). Stage two, the one best suited to the sprinters (Friday 21st), won’t be easy, either, with the Cat-3 ascents of Bocos and Retuerta.
