Analysis

The 41st edition of the GP Larciano will again be the ‘intermezzo’ of top-level Italian cycling between the Strade Bianche, held on the Saturday prior to the event, and Tirreno-Adriatico, starting three days later. The route of this race in Tuscany, where Richard Carapaz took a promising 2nd place in 2017, does not change from last season, with two different circuits and a finish suiting different riders, the punchier ones or the best climbers.

The opening loop -22.3km, four laps- will join the towns of Lamporecchio, Lazzeretto, Stabbia, Baccane and Castelmatini, always on flatter roads. It will be the second circuit (27.5km, another four laps) which will spice things up, with the climb to San Baronto (9.4km, 3.2% avg.), crested just 6km away from the finish of each lap, set to tear the bunch apart and leave a small group of favourites contesting victory at the end.
