Analysis

The Movistar Team heads into the 2023 men’s UAE Tour with its focus set on the sprinting chances of Fernando Gaviria, while also keeping other scenarios in mind. We can’t forget Carlos Verona achieved a valuable sixth spot overall with tenacity and class over the key mountain stages.

The two uphill finishes from that year are back in 2023: the long, steady Jebel Jais (Wednesday 22nd), the highest peak in the country; and the more demanding, while always on wide roads, Jebel Hafeet (Sunday 26th).

Between those, there will be really dangerous stages in the crosswinds -especially the opening one to Al Mirfa (Monday 20th)- and a 17 km TTT, the first one of the season, at the Khalifa Port (Tuesday 21st). Stages four -Dubai; Thursday 23rd-, five -Umm al Quwain; Friday 24th- and six -Abu Dhabi; Saturday 25th- are clearer ‘volata’ opportunities.
