Tirreno-Adriatico is back in the calendar in its usual dates (March) and for mat (seven stages), after making part of the calendar restructuring in the summer of 2020 due to the pandemic. The Italian WorldTour event also remains a notable feature because of its classic structure: a big mountain stage, a time trial, long, hilly courses with some ‘walls’ to climb… All in all, a preparation for both the GC contenders for the Giro in two months’ time and those seeking for glory in Sanremo a few days after the ‘Race of the Two Seas’.
Four stages will be decisive in Italy. On Thursday 11th, the riders will climb a short, gentle ascent towards the finish in Chiusdino, after more than 200 kilometers with lots of ups and downs into the second half of the course. Saturday 13th, the peloton will tackle the Queen stage over the demanding Prati di Tivo (14.7km at 7%), after the previous climbs of Sella di Corno and Passo Capannelle.
A day later, on Sunday 14th, the race will get through an endless series of short, steep climbs at a final circuit in and around Castelfidardo. And on Tuesday 16th, to wrap things up, an ITT in San Benedetto del Tronto, over 10.1 kilometers.
