Analysis

The 31st edition of the Thüringen Tour (UCI WE 2.1), held in the homonymous German ‘land’ located in the geographic center of the country, will be a final chance for the Movistar Team ladies to gain some serious racing form together before resting up and preparing the Giro Rosa, the biggest stagerace in the UCI UCI Women’s WorldTour, where the Blues will compete for the first time this July.

The officially-named Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour is actually the second longest race of the season for the Telefónica-backed squad, with seven days of competition always ridden in loops around the different host cities, on lumpy courses that include a decisive ITT (19km) on Sunday 3rd June, in the town of Schmölln.

The six remaining stages aren’t really easy at all, with tough hills in Schleusingen (Monday 28th) and Meiningen (Tuesday 29th), as well as in a longer loop around Schleiz (Wednesday 30th); a difficult climb before the finish in Gera (Thursday 31st); a tough uphill finish in Dörtendorf (Friday 1st); and a very long route, 142km, with a flatter finish in Gotha (Saturday 2nd) before the time trial.
