Tirreno-Adriatico
1048 Kilometers 7 Stages
Following several seasons in which the race presented a big mountain stage which conditioned who could aim for overall success, Tirreno-Adriático comes back in 2019 to a route formula used pretty much consistently until the mid 2000s, with classics contenders, climbers and time trialists alike able to chase the GC.
Despite the two time trials remaining unchanged from previous years- a 21.5km TTT as opener in Lido di Camaiore (Wednesday 13th); a 10km ITT before curtains-down in San Benedetto del Tronto (Tuesday 19th)- and even some road stages also repeating its final sections, such as day two (Thursday 14th) to Pomarance’s uphill finish, the final weekend has a quite different face in 2019.
On Saturday 16th, the riders will tackle a long route (221km) with a very lumpy finale, including the climbs of Villa del Monte (128km, max slope 19%), Cartocetto -non-categorized, 165km-, Monteguiduccio (185km, max 18%) and a very demanding final circuit with two ascents of I Capuccini (1.5km / 10.6%), the last one 6km from the end. And on Sunday 17th, a brutal loop around Recanati will feature four ascents to both San Pietro (20%) and Castenuovo (1.2km / 14%).
