Analysis

The Vuelta Ciclista Internacional a la Región de Murcia turns 40, basically the same age its everlasting reference Alejandro Valverde will reach in April. ‘Bala’ will be back for a race which is keeping its traditional route through the Sierra Espuña for the final day while changing the opening one, this time between Los Alcázares and Caravaca de la Cruz (Friday 14th).

The elevations of Cabezo de la Plata (Cat-3), Garapacha (Cat-1) and Quipar (Cat-3) will preceed an uphill finish towards the Basílica de la Vera Cruz, a narrow, twisty road with avg. slopes at 5.5% and sections around 10%. Saturday 15th will in turn see the riders take on a traditional mountain trek, over Espuña (Cat-1), Collado Bermejo (HC) and Gebas (Cat-3), prior to the finish in Murcia’s Gran Vía.
