Analysis

This was one of many ‘borders’ that women’s cycling still needed to cross, and this ‘debt’ with them will be finally be paid as Saturday 2nd October brings the first edition of Paris-Roubaix. The best classics specialists in the WorldTour will enjoy -following a year’s wait after it was first announced in the middle of the pandemic- the tough cobblestones on the way to the Velodrome of Roubaix, with up to 17 sectors, almost 30km, and several of the most famous roads from the men’s race.

No Trouée d’Arenberg, sadly, even if it’s located just few kilometers outside the starting city of Denain, yet the riders will get to cover the two other ‘five-star’ sections: Mons-en-Pévèle (67km) and Carrefour de l’Arbre (99km), also located here in a strategical position, about 20km from the finish. Between those, lots of narrow, difficult, technical, grueling sectors, where only the most brave, the strongest, the most resilient will stand a chance to collect the famous cobblestone given as trophy for the winner.
