Analysis

The men’s Movistar Team’s penultimate Italy outing of 2022 comes to its close with the Memorial Marco Pantani, an event which, despite its mid-mountain course honouring one of the best climbers of all time, usually comes down to a short field’s sprint due to its final circuit around the city which, ironically, saw the birth of ‘Il Pirata’, coastal Cesenatico.

The 188km parcours, starting from Forlì, features the climbs of Rocca delle Caminate (toughest section: 2.5km at 6%), Pieve di Rivoschio (4km at 6.3%) and most notably 3x Montevecchio (4km at 7.5%). Before heading towards the finish, the race will climb over the cobblestones of the ‘Muro’ di Longiano (700m at 10%) with 42 kilometers to go.
