Analysis

The 2023 debut for Enric Mas is finally coming, at a Vuelta a Andalucía where, just like last year, there will be no easy finishes and all hilly routes -with the final stage in Alhaurín de la Torre (Sunday 19th) being the only exception when it comes to a bunch sprint-. Certainly a good measuring point for the fitness of the 2022 La Vuelta podium finisher.

The race will start from Puente de Génave in Jaén, on Wednesday 15th, climbing towards Santiago de la Espada over three Cat-1 ascents, including the Despiernacaballos just 7km from the uphill finish in Santiago de la Espada. On Thursday 16th, the Hoya de Charilla (Cat-2), 20 km from the finish, will preceed an intricatecobbled climb to Alcalá la Real, at the La Mota fortress.

Friday 17th, a tough slope with just over 1km from Alcalá de los Gazules’ finish will again test the favourites’ legs, while on Saturday 18th, four climbs -three of them categorized- will be tackled on the last 60km towards yet another uphill finish in Iznájar.
