O Gran Camiño
505 Kilometers 4 Stages
The race will be broadcast on Eurosport and GCN.
The northwestern Spanish region of Galicia gets back, more than two decades later, a professional men’s stagerace with O Gran Camiño, which will cover, with live TV and some WorldTour squads – including the Movistar Team – at the start, all four provinces of this beautiful area of the world. It’s undoubtedly huge news for Spanish cycling, so much in need of those nowadays.
Races in Galicia are always hilly and group finishes are never ensured. The event starts in the Pontevedra province, with two KOMs and some little ascents in the finale of stage one towards Vigo (Thursday 24th). A day later on stage two (Friday 25th), the peloton will tackle the first key finish with the Mirador de Ézaro, and its slopes up to 28%, preceded by the Alto de Ameixenda.
The weekend offers two equally beautiful routes. Saturday 26th, riders will take on the Ribeira Sacra in Ourense, climbing to Noguera (Cat-2), Seragude (Cat-1) and Moura (Cat-1) just before the finish in Luintra. And Sunday 27th, a 16km ITT will wrap things up in Sarria, with some slopes halfway through the route before a brutal finish in the heart of the city.
