Day saved after a tricky finish in Termoli
14 May 2021

Giro d'Italia (st.7)

Ewan (LTS) took the stage in front of Cimolai (ISN) and Merlier (AFC) on a finish in which positioning was key. Our guys kept safe and there are no major changes on the GC.

A typical sprinters day in the Giro until the technical finish in Termoli. A break was formed on the very moment the race director waved the flag as Pellaud (ANS), Marengo (BCF) and Christian (EOK) accelerated and no one in the peloton even winked.

The break got up to 4 minutes but the difference with the main group diminished gradually, especially in the two intermediate sprints, as they were fought by the sprinters behind.

At 16 km to go the break was caught then a raw fight for the first positions of the peloton began as there was a 12% gradient ramp inside the last 2 km, and then some narrow turns with a slight uphill terrain until the very finish line.

Several attacks were made on that ramp, the most significant by Molano (UAD) who was caught with 100 meters to go by an explosive Ewan. All our guys arrived safe and sound to the finish line.

The team rode together for the most part of the stage, avoiding any risks (c): BettiniPhoto

Another mountain test for tomorrow between Foggia and Guardia Sanframondi with a 2nd category climb on the middle and a short but steep final climb.

– Start at 12.40 h, finish around 17.00 h; broadcasted by Eurosport 2 and GCN+ starting 12:20 h.
