Challenge Mallorca
824 Kilometers 5 Stages
There’s no live TV for this season-opener, with highlights instead being aired every night on Eurosport (20-25′ per race).
Just like it happened last year, the Movistar Team will be opening their road season at the Mallorca Challenge, which will feature an extra day of competition in 2022, up to five, that takes it to the heights it held earlier this century. It’s thus an extra chance for some of the greats in the peloton to battle against each other in this series of UCI 1.1 races in Spain.
Even if the clearest chance for a bunch sprint will be the final day (Sunday 30th), with the traditional finish at Palma’s coastline, a group finish is not to be ruled out in Palmanova on day one (Wednesday 26th), with five little climbs followed by some minor ups and downs heading into the finish.
The three other stages are quite more suited to both climbers and classics riders. Day two, around Port d’Alcúdia (Thursday 27th), features the climbs of Sa Batalla (Cat-2) and Femenia (Cat-4) with about 30km to go. Friday 28th, the peloton will take on the famous Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, with four categorized ascents and the Puig Major (Cat-1) with 33km to go. And Saturday 29th, the riders will be back to the hilltop finish of Port d’Andratx, after five other rated climbs and several little lumps on the way to the finish.
** It’s important to remind our readers that only seven riders can take part in each trophy, with lineups changing almost every day. Our website and social media will feature info every day on the following trophy’s Blue roster.
