Male Team 17 - 20 Feb
Setmana Valenciana
484 Kilometers 4 Stages
Regional TV station À Punt will cover all four stages live (1530 / 1545 / 1545 / 1400 CET) on its website.
There will be 10-6-4″ at every finish, plus 3-2-1″ at intermediate sprints.
The Movistar Team has one stage win + one GC victory to its name in the Setmana Valenciana, both achieved by Annemiek van Vleuten in 2021.
In a calendar full of one-day events in the first three months of racing, the Setmana Valencia is almost the only exception until late April. It will be the Movistar Team’s sole multi-day event until the end of the classics campaign, and also the debut race of its main sporting reference, Annemiek van Vleuten. It will be the start of a long approach to the Grand Tours for the Olympic champion, the Dutchwoman set to ride all three of them in the summer.
The climbs of Barxeta (Cat-4) and Barx (Cat-2), where ‘Miek’ absolutely destroyed her opposition in 2021, will again be present on day one (Thursday 17th), finishing in Gandía. A lumpy start to a very demanding race which will head south on Friday 18th, finishing in Cocentaina after lots of ups and downs, with only one categorized climb -Confrides (Cat-1)- yet absolutely no respite in the interior of Alicante.
Saturday 19th will take the riders over a Queen stage holding true to that name. A respectable 135km with a profile containing 2,800 meters of vertical gain, over the Alto del Remolcador (Cat-1) and, more importantly, the combination of the Alto Collao (Cat-1; 13km, 5%) with the finishing ascent to Vistabella (Cat-1; 7km, 5.5%). The GC will be decided there, as the last stage (Sunday 20th), even if containing the Alto de l’Oronet, will be one for the sprinters.
