Analysis

More of a Gran Camiño (Great Way) than ever! Finishing in the center of Santiago de Compostela with an individual time trial, demanding as usual on Galician soil (Sunday 26th), will give the race an even more special character in its second edition. Ruben Guerreiro, overall winner in Saudi and a ‘neighbor’ of the region through his Portuguese origin, will be the Movistar Team’s most significant name into a lineup that will defend Valverde’s last ever victory, the first overall title of the event.

The three road stages will be really demanding, with more than 3,000 meters of elevation gain each. Thursday 23rd, the ‘alto’ of Montán (Cat-3) will be the main difficulty with 12km from the finish in Sarria; Friday 24th, the peloton will finish atop the Monte Trega, in A Guarda (Cat-2), after the previous climb of the Cruz de Portela (Cat-3); and on Saturday 25th, two climbs of Santa Marina (Cat-1) will be combined with yet another mountain-top finish in the Alto do Castelo (Cat-2), in Rubiá, in what will be considered the Queen stage.
