Analysis

Very few races have the mystical spirit of the ‘Queen of the Classics’, whose third edition repeats the main features from its muddy premiere, 2021, and the fast-paced 2022 race. No Arenberg is to be covered here -it’s just next to its current start in Denain-, but all other main cobbled sectors are featured into a course that requires good luck, good positioning, full focus and, of course, strong legs.

Even if everything can change with the blink of an eye here, two are usually the key points here: the sectors leading up to the Mons-en-Pévèle (#11; 49km form the finish) and the combination of Camphin-en-Pévèle (#5; 20km to go) and the Carrefour de l’Arbre (#4; 17km left), after which there’s practically no race selection possible. This race is pure and raw agony, from the very opening circuit to the legendary finish in the Velodrome.
