Analysis

It will be the last WorldTour event before the World Championships – it will actually be held two days before the men’s road race from Glasgow. ‘Opening itself’ a bit -without going to the extreme of starting, as it happened during its earliest WorldTour years, from Gdansk and the northern shoes- to different venues, departing from Poznań in the middle of the country, the Tour de Pologne will introduce some changes to its 2023 route, always featuring mid mountains, tough slopes and a decisive 16km ITT in and around Katowice (stage six; Thursday 3rd August).

Before getting to that time trial, the peloton will tackle long stages, also quite demanding at most points. Of note are the mountain-top finish of Karpacz (st. 2; Sunday 30th), after 203km and two other rated ascents; the hill-top arrival in Duszniki-Zdrój (st. 3; Monday 31st), taking on Zeleniec (Cat-2) just before the finish; and the lumpy final circuit in Bielsko-Biała (st. 5; Wednesday 2nd), which has often, nevertheless finished with a ‘volata’.
