Analysis

‘Bala was here!’. Eight years ago, the Movistar Team already visited the Tour of Oman, now returning as part of a Middle East tournée that will include simultaneous stops for men and women this week. The Sultanate’s race is, however, quite more mountainous than UAE, with only one clear chance for pure sprinters.

After what’s actually that fast man’s finish at the Oman Convention Center (Saturday 11th), the climbs will follow abundantly: Qurayyat (2.6km, 7%) will be the first hill-top finish on Sunday 12th; then, Jabal Haat (4.6km, 8.5%), already a big ascent on Monday 13th; Yitti Hills (Tuesday 14th), over 1.6km at 6.6% with just 1km from the finish; and, above them all, the traditional Jabal Al Akhdar / Green Mountain, Wednesday 15th, over 5.7km at a whopping 10.5% average.
