Analysis

The Itzulia Basque Country will cover in 2024 more terrain than ever with two stages held on French soil. A demanding 10km ITT between Irun and Olaberria (Monday 1st) will open an even whose road stages will gradually increase its difficulty.

Following a clear sprint chance in Cambo (Tuesday 2nd) and the Lizarrusti ascent before Alsasua’s stage three finish on Wednesday 3rd, the slopes of Gatzaga / Dorleta will spice things up before Legutio’s arrival, in Álava.

Friday 5th will bring the race into Bizkaia for a remembrance of the Klasika Primavera in Amorebieta, with a dual ascent of Montecalvo plus a short slope just before the line. Then, on Saturday 6th, the traditional, infamous Queen stage in Eibar, with seven rated climbs in just 137km: Elkorrieta (Cat-3), Azurki (Cat-1), Gorla (Cat-2), the brutal Krabelin (Cat-1) halfway through the course and the decisive Trabakua (Cat-3) + Ixua (Cat-1) + San Miguel (Cat-3).
