Analysis
The third edition of the Itzulia Women will again bring climbers to the fore in the Spanish month of May, even though the inaugural stage (Friday 10th) on Álava soil, with Olaeta (Cat-3), Azkarate (Cat-2) and Iraeta (Cat-3) towards Elgoibar’s finish, offers the biggest chance to a small group’s sprint.
Things will get quite harder on stage two (Saturday 11th), over Urruzti -more than 1km at almost 15%- halfway through and a series of significant hills near the end in Basauri. Finally, on Saturday 12th, the ‘Clásica de San Sebastián’, fully decisive, with Jaizkibel (Cat-1), Gurutze (Cat-3) and Mendizorrotz (Cat-2) 27km from the finish at the famous Boulevard.
