Analysis

The road towards the Ronde van Vlaanderen starts for the women’s Movistar Team on Thursday 21st March with the Classic Brugge – De Panne, whose nearly 160km don’t feature any elevations nor pavé, yet there’s a key factor which was historically able to prevent the bunch sprint: the wind.

The De Moeren straight, located 11km from each passage (two laps) over the line and free from any shelter against the coastal gusts, is the place for crosswinds to split the peloton into echelons. Sprinters will, though, still be the main favourites at De Panne’s Zeelaan avenue.
