Analysis

The health situation our world is currently in has prevented the Movistar Team from making their 2021 racing debut before February 11th, the starting day for the first ‘surviving’ race -the French event Tour de La Provence- of those they had on their schedule some weeks ago. The Telefónica-backed squad will thus head with big excitement towards a competition whose four stages offer equal chances to fast finishers, adventurers and even good climbers.

The race will start with some lumpy roads -four categorized climbs-, yet with a finish suited to the sprinters in Six-Fours-les-Plages (Thursday 11th), before an intriguing stage two final circuit in  Manosque (Friday 12th), featuring a slightly uphill finish (3km at 3.5%) after the previous ‘côtes’ of Mort d’Imbert (Cat-2) and Montfuron (Cat-3).

Saturday 13th February will see riders tackling the decisive finish of the Chalet Reynard, three quarters of the legendary Mont Ventoux climb: 14.6 kilometers at 7.6% average. The closing stage (Sunday 14th) will be, on the other hand, the ‘easiest’ chance for the sprinters, with just over 1,000 meters of elevation gain and a flag finish in Salon-de-Provence.
