Analysis

The organisers of the Ladies Tour of Norway expand their race in 2022 to create a new and beautiful block of races in August, with eight WWT days between the Vårgårda duo and the new Tour of Scandinavia – Battle of the North, which takes place in Denmark and Sweden over its first two stages.

It’s not a race with tough gradients (five of its six stages are barely over 1,000m elevation), though routes are tricky -with finishing slopes in Sarpsborg (Thursday 11th) and Mysen (Friday 12th); the final circuit in Halden (Sunday 14th) is really technical-, likeliness of wind is considerable in the first two days and there’s a crucial mountain-top finish to decide the race on Saturday 13th.

The climb towards Norefjell (11.1km at 6.1%, with a small flat zone near the end), where Van Vleuten won in 2021, will define the GC places.
