Analysis

One year after a victory which filled the whole Telefónica-backed squad with immense joy, the Movistar Team is back in action with the renamed AlUla Tour, over five stages between the traditional sprints in the Arabic Peninsula and the difficult hills that decide the GC outcome, some of them new in 2024.

The race will again be decided, this time literally on its final day, on the slopes of Harrat Uwayrid -almost 2km at over 15%-, Saturday 3rd February. Before that, though, the race will likely ride its way through echelons prior to two expected sprints, especially at Almanshiyah’s opener on Tuesday 30th, and later tackle another two hill-top finishes: Sharaan (Wednesday 31st), 4km at 4%, and Maraya (Friday 2nd), over a final 600m at 6%.
