Lorenzo Milesi

World-level time trialist

MORE THAN JUST A TT SPECIALIST. Despite the most recent years of Lorenzo Milesi’s sporting career built on the foundation of incredible time trial results, the man from Lombardy is a sportsperson with great ambition, aiming at being a true allrounder. He proved so by staying close to the top climbers on tough stages of the three most prestigious under-23 stageraces in the world: the 2021 Giro Next Gen and the 2022 Giro della Valle d’Aosta and Tour de l’Avenir, the latter seeing him victorious at a very hilly final stage, against quite more climbing types than the 70kg Italian.

REIGNING IN RAINBOW. Even if it’s very unlikely that he will wear it at a race, Milesi comes to the Movistar Team in 2024 as world champion, winner of the gold medal at the under-23 time trial held in Stirling, Scotland. His TT title and the fifth place -deeply into contention until the very end- at the road race seemed to crown a very consistent maiden WorldTour season, again showing his colours at all kinds of races and making his WT debut in Catalunya, Dauphiné or Pologne. However, the best was yet to come…

LEADING HIS FIRST GRAND TOUR. To be more precise, in the opening day of his first Grand Tour. At the extremely challenging team time trial that opened the 2023 La Vuelta, his debut in a three-week stagerace, Milesi and his dsm-firmenich team-mates’ took the first red leader’s jersey by two tenths of a second on the Movistar Team, on the wet roads of Barcelona. With Lorenzo first over the line, a completely unexpected ‘La Roja’ was waiting for him that night, at just 21 years of age.
