Analysis

The Tour of Britain will be the last stagerace the men’s Movistar Team will take the start of in 2019. In this year’s race, the 16th with its current name and the 80th since its inception, it will be held almost entirely in the northern half of the main British Isle, starting from Glasgow in Scotland and finishing in Manchester. The hills in this race aren’t particularly decisive, rather than the ‘weakness’ of the teams –only six riders per squad are allowed-, the narrow roads, the twists and turns and the always-changing weather.

After three opening due for a sprint or a winning break, the attention will be put into the second half of the event. Stage four to Kendal (Tuesday 10th), with plenty of little ascents, and stage five around Birkenhead Park (Wednesday 11th), with Flaybrick Hill (Cat-3) just 4km from the end, will preceed the two decisive days in the race: a flat 14km ITT in and around Pershore (Thursday 12th) and the demanding Burton Dassett circuit (Friday 13th), with tough slopes already covered by The Women’s Tour back in June.
