Rémi Cavagna

Flying low over the roads of the worlf

SHONE EARLY AND BRIGHTLY. Encouraged by both his grandpa and father, both big cycling enthusiasts, Rémi Cavagna took quite a while to jump onto a bike competitively: he only raced from age 16. However, in just six years -with several national titles on his way, usually excelling through long solo breakaways or brilliant TT efforts-, and without leaving his Law studies behind, the man affectionately known as ‘TGV de Clermont-Ferrand’ jumped from the VC Cournon (junior) and the Team Pro Immo Nicolas Roux (amateur) to the development outfit of one of the most powerful squads in the WorldTour, the prestigious Quick Step.

SUCH GREAT ESCAPES! Despite his first win coming during his third pro season, already in the WT ranks at the Dwars door West-Vlaanderen (2018), the Auvergne native had already shown his allrounding capabilities -able to excel at uphill efforts, other than his rouleur abilities- from the get-go. 4th in Guangxi (2018) against great climbers; winner with more than seven minutes of advantage in a hilly, demanding stage -3,000m vertical gain- of the Tour of California; alone for 190km to win with a 3-minute margin at Faun-Ardèche (2020), just before covid… He really seemed like a talented prospect!

SEEKING TO BE ONE OF THE BEST. And after the pandemic stop, he didn’t stop shining: no less than three national elite titles (one in the road race and two in the time trial, the last one current from 2023); vice European champion and 7th in the Worlds; winner of TTs in Pologne, Romandie and Coppi e Bartali – and a stellar 2023 season. Five victories, including his first GC in the Tour de Slovaquie. Rémi, however, will not settle with that, trying to take further steps ahead, especially with his aero and technique on the TT bars, aiming to become for good one of the best in the business.
