The women’s Movistar Team’s breakthrough leads the Blues back to the fore of the peloton, with the talent of Van Vleuten (Olympic champion + 12 wins and the UCI World No. 1) and Norsgaard (six victories) supported by an exciting group of young talents. Up to 23 wins are claimed by the group led by Sebastián Unzué, Lastras and Sanz, to combine with the 15 triumphs notched up by the men, back to the podium of a Grand Tour after two years with Enric Mas, 2nd in La Vuelta and 6th in the Tour. Valverde, returning to the front with three wins despite a huge crash in La Vuelta, announces 2022 will be his last ever season.
