The Movistar Team conquer with Annemiek van Vleuten their fifth World Championships and the three most renowned stageraces in the women’s calendar (Le Tour Femmes, the Giro Donne and the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta) as highest point of their most successful season, with 46 wins between the men’s and women’s squads. The male roster overcomes a very difficult situation, fighting against the fear of relegation, with an excellent late season, closing in on twenty wins with an overall podium for Mas in La Vuelta and the birth of a new ‘second unit’, led by Aranburu, Serrano, Cortina, Jorgenson, Lazkano, Pedrero or Sosa. The worst news were also the most emotional: Alejandro Valverde bids farewell after nearly twenty years with the team, remaining competitive until the very last day and leaving behind him an endless legacy as the most complete talent in our history.
